Item #028
Shirt by Banana Republic

Size M. This is a thrift store find, which I embroidered. The embroidery design is from the ©Brother Embroidery Card, "Fancy Work". Machine washable.

Embroidery Time: 70min

A Barong Tagalog (or simply Barong) is an embroidered formal garment of the Philippines. It is very lightweight and worn untucked (similar to a coat/dress shirt), over an undershirt. It is a common wedding and formal attire for Filipino men as well as women. The term "Barong Tagalog" literally means "Tagalog dress" (i.e., baro ng Tagalog or dress of the Tagalog) in the Filipino language.

My mother recently returned from the Philippines & brought home a Barong for my boyfriend. I remembered how much I loved the design when I was younger that I decided to create my own version of the Barong. Of course, I haven't any experience making collared shirts, yet, so I went thrifting for them. Eventually, I will hand make my own shirts, but for now, this is a cheap alternative!

Please note: The fabric is pinched due to the embroidery. I find that starching it when you iron resolves this issue.
